A press release from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Friday stated that the military's major priority is to embark on the eradication of illiteracy among its personnel.

The project was commissioned Wednesday during a training session on literacy and numeracy at the Armed Forces Education Center, Wilberforce in Freetown.

Chief of Defense Staff, Major General Sam M'boma said for the RSLAF to realize its potentials illiteracy should be eradicated within the rank and file of the army.

Coordinating Officer of Partners in Adult Education (PADECO) who also doubles as the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. P.O. Kamara, said the scheme would not only contribute towards providing education for all by 2012 but would also help to reduce the high rate of illiteracy in the country.

Kamara said the programme is in fulfillment of the Dakar Conference which called on countries to provide basic education for its citizens.
