Voting in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leoneans vote in a second-round runoff to choose their president, the first elections since a UN peacekeeping force left two years ago.

Voters formed short and orderly queues as polls in the Sierra Leone presidential election opened in Freetown on Saturday (September 8). The orderly scenes were in contrast to the start of voting last month, when many polling stations opened late and there was confusion about where people were meant to cast their ballots.
