Kabbah Appreciates China's Gesture

President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah yesterday commended the Chinese government for its continued support to the people of Sierra Leone.

Receiving a consignment of medical equipment donated to Sierra Leone by the Chinese government, President Kabbah noted that the equipment which include two ECGs, X-Ray equipment, digital Ultrasound Systems, Portable Insight Monitor and a Dehumidifier will maximize the country's health care delivery and reduce the cost of overseas medical diagnosis and treatment.

"This is only the first phase of a long list of medical assistance to Sierra Leone. The delivery of these equipment is to be followed by the construction of a 100-bed modern hospital as one of the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit held in November last year in Beijing, China.

President Kabbah disclosed that upon completion of the hospital with modern Medicine and Radiotherapy Department, a Diagnostic Centre, Pathology and Forensic Medicine Department and a Medical Waste Management Department, it will make the health sector in Sierra Leone competitive with other modern hospitals anywhere in the world.

Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Cheng Wenju said the bilateral relationship between the two countries is being continuously strengthened in the field of medicine, health and sanitation.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to President Kabbah's extraordinary contributions in his tenure to develop the traditional friendship between China and Sierra Leone. I sincerely hope that he will consistently render his care and attention to the consolidation and development of Sino-Sierra Leone friendly relations in terms of bringing more benefits to the people of two countries," the Ambassador stated.
