Abel Stronge is new Speaker of parliament

Justice Nathaniel Abel Stronge, a no-nonsense member of the Sierra Leone judiciary, has been elected Speaker this morning by the country’s new parliamentarians who themselves were sworn in earlier.

In a brief chat with the Vanguard today, presidential spokesman Alpha Kanu said the APC’s Edward Turay was also appointed Leader of the House.

The majority of the 124 member parliament(including some chiefs) are members of the ruling APC followed by the SLPP and the PMDC.

Abel Stronge made a name for himself in the Sierra Leone judiciary as a stern but fair High Court judge. Stay tuned.
