Rotarians carry out 720 cataract operations in Sierra Leone

KOLKATA, JUN 28 :  An 11-member Indo-Nepalese team of Rotarians belonging to rotary districts 3290 & 3240 recently visited Sierra Leone, a country in the west coast of Africa.

The Rotarians worked almost 12 hours a day to serve around 1500 people. They carried out 720 cataract operations during the period (from May 28 to June 11). There were around 30 skill transfer programmes in the field of medical science. Free medicines were distributed.

As regards future plans, district governor Debasish Mitra (rotary district 3290) said that they are thinking of a visit to Malaysia sometime soon. Mitra also said that this year the contribution to Rotary International has touched $500,000, an all-time high.
