'Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars' will be screened Wednesday at Rose Wagner

The documentary "Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars," about six musicians who escaped a civil war and found connection through their music, will have a screening Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Rose Wagner Center for the Performing Arts, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City. 
The film's co-director, Zach Niles, will be in attendance and will take questions after the show. Also in attendance is Ishmael Beah, author of the best-seller A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
The screening is free, though a donation of $5 is suggested. The event is part of the Salt Lake City Film Center's New Faces of Africa series. 
Other screenings connected with Beah's visit, both at the City Library Auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City: "Operation Fine Girl," a documentary about the use of sexual abuse in the Sierra Leone war, Tuesday at 4 p.m.; and "Witness in Truth," a video document of the official Sierra Leonean Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, Wednesday at 3 p.m. 
Life after meth: A free screening of the KUED documentary "Aftermath of Meth," a look into the drug's effects in the West, is Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Main Library auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. 
A panel discussion follows the screening, presented by the Salt Lake City Film Center.

Lake Film Society's Open Mic Night, in which local filmmakers show their short films, is Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the Tower Theatre, 876 E. 900 South, Salt Lake City. Tickets are $7.75 at the door.

Way out there: Out/Ex's monthly installment, "Mondo Fabuloso," will bring shorts by "outsider artist" filmmakers to Nobrow Coffee & Tea, 315 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City, May 19 at 8 p.m. 
The screening is free, though donations are welcome. The show is put together by the Pickle Company and the Free Form Film Festival.
