Diamond junior begins Sierra Leone prospecting campaign

UK-based international diamond exploration and mining company River Diamonds, in a joint venture with African Precious Minerals, has started a diamond-drilling programme at the Pandubo Blow target, in Sierra Leone.
This marks the drilling of its first target in the Panguma concession. Pandubo Blow located in the eastern area of the project area, previously mined by artisanal workers to a depth of some 12 m below the current surface level. The artisanal work ceased as the kimberlitic rock became too hard to mine using manual methods.
“Historically, several large stones were recovered from this deposit, including a 50-ct diamond,” the company said in a statement. (read more)
